I`ve been writting a University paper for some time on the ELMO c300, also known als Elmo Trifilmatic, Honneywell Elmo or Ilford Elmo. Mr.Lossau seems to be the sole source on information on the topic, and not only this website, but his books “Movie Cameras” and “The complete Catalgue of Movie Cameras” have been extremly helpful.
I started my paper trying to answer the question: “why would Elmo build a camera that supports three different 8mm formats in the first place?” (A question that Mr. Lossau himself asks in “Movie Cameras”). I have desisted from directly answering this, but im curious what other poeple may thin about it, what are your thoughts?
I asked this to probably the major expert on the topic in my city, Prof. Dr. Günter Giesenfeld, and his answer was “Elmo was crazy and simply loved to experiment”.
